It's March and it already feels like spring is coming very close.
Although the cold weather is still rampant, the trees seem to have already budded and are enjoying the spring breeze.
We would like to introduce the activities of the SCJ volunteer group as it has been noticed in Masan as well.
A Changwon city council member who attended the ‘Beginning of the Sea’ campaign said.
“I thought Masan Bay was clean because the ocean was cleaned well, but I was surprised to know that the ocean was severely polluted by cigarette butts. “Through this campaign, we will participate in reducing marine debris in the future.”
On February 2, the Shincheonji volunteer group participated in the Keep-to-be-Green “Beginning of the Sea” campaign, an environmental purification volunteer activity of the Masan branch.

Near Masan Station, the Masan Branch of the Shincheonji Volunteer Group (Chairman Seong Chang-ho), with about 70 people, including local figures, conducted the ‘Beginning of the Sea’ campaign as part of the Keep-to-be-Green environmental purification volunteer work.
The 'Beginning of the Sea' campaign is a campaign to raise awareness among citizens in the city and prevent them from carelessly discarding cigarette butts on the streets.
As part of the 2050 carbon neutrality movement, numerous cigarette butts discarded through rain gutters flow into the sea through sewer pipes. I want to tell that adverse effects on the marine ecosystem will come back to humans.
The area near Masan Station is an area with a large floating population, so it is a place where many citizens come and go.
The Masan branch of the Shincheonji Volunteer Group shed a lot of sweat through regular volunteer work on this day. It made us think about the meaning of this campaign through not only environmental cleanup activities but also parades with citizens.
“Even though the area in front of Masan Station was cleaned, cigarette butts were visible everywhere, so I am grateful to see it cleaned up through today’s event,” said a Changwon city council member who participated in the event. “In the future, Masan Bay and the marine ecosystem will be improved through the Shincheonji Volunteer Group’s campaign.” “I hope he survives,” he said.
A participant from the Masan branch of the Korean Agent Orange Comrades said, “Our group are old age group, so we were only looking for volunteer work, then it was meaningful to be invited to participate in volunteer activities like this.”
“Until now, I only knew that cigarettes were harmful to the body, but today I learned for the first time that they are the main culprit of marine debris.
“I want to continue to work together in the future,” he said.
An official from the Masan branch of the Shincheonji Volunteer Group said, “We have been communicating with local government offices and carrying out volunteer work that is most needed in the region that suits the characteristics of the region.
He said, “We will continue to carry out activities where we can run and volunteer together whenever help is needed.”
