I think the reason why Mr. Lee asked this is because he did not know about religion.
He did not know about the two kinds of gods, the Creator’s position and which god controls this world.
Not only Italy, but all mankind is in the same situation. When the Creator, the God of heaven comes, the god of evil will rebel even more.
